A well-prepared client handles the session better, and the skin takes the ink better. Most of the preparation is ordinary everyday stuff: sleep, eat, and skip the beers the night before.
The day before
- Sleep properly. Pain feels stronger when you are tired.
- No alcohol for at least 24 hours before the session. Alcohol thins the blood, increases bleeding and can affect how the ink takes. The same goes for aspirin and ibuprofen.
- Drink water throughout the day. Well-hydrated skin is more flexible.
- If your skin is dry, start light moisturizing a week ahead, but skip the lotion on that area on tattoo day.
- No sunbathing on the area to be tattooed. Burnt skin does not get tattooed.
On the day
- Eat a solid meal 1-2 hours before your appointment. An empty stomach is the most common reason people faint at the studio.
- Take a shower. Everyone at the studio appreciates it.
- Wear loose clothes that make the area easy to expose and that can take a stain. Ink does not wash out.
- Do not shave the area yourself. Your artist does it at the start of the session, and broken skin can postpone the whole appointment.
- Come healthy. With a fever or the flu, the session gets rescheduled: a sick body heals poorly, and the studio is a shared space.
What to bring?
For a long session, pack a small kit: a water bottle, snacks (nuts, fruit, a protein bar), headphones and a phone charger. Bring ID, since we only tattoo adults.
You can usually bring one support person, but confirm by message beforehand. During the session you can chat, listen to music or stay quiet: you decide, and the artist stays focused on the work either way. Breaks are part of the process, just say so if you need one.
How does booking work?
Sessions are booked via Instagram DM to @tatuointistudionero. Include your idea, the size and placement you have in mind, and any reference images, and you will get an estimate of the schedule and price. There is no booking deposit: your session is confirmed by message.
Walk-in tattoos happen on dedicated walk-in days, announced in advance on Instagram. On other days, do not head to the studio without a booked session.
